Adient Seating Concept Offers Significant Space Gains for the Vehicle Interior
Burscheid, Germany, September 25, 2025 – Adient, a global leader in automotive seating, presents its “Pure Ergonomics” seating concept, which significantly improves ergonomics and space in the vehicle interior. The focus is on improving comfort for all passengers – not just those in the front row.
The new front seat concept is based on Adient’s “Autonomous Elegance” demonstrator, which was introduced for the premium vehicle segment in 2023. Compared to similar segments, it offers up to 60 mm of additional space in the foot and knee area in the second row. This creates a level of spaciousness typically only found in higher-end segments.

In addition to improved space utilization, the newly patented concept has been refined to better accommodate natural human movement: When the passenger adjusts the seat, it supports an anatomically correct tilting motion in every position.
The “Pure Ergonomics” concept features a manual adjustment mechanism that has been developed specifically for the middle and lower price segments. Its cost efficiency results from optimized use of materials such as metal, foam, and trim, among other factors. The reduction in total weight of 5-10 percent has a direct impact on lower energy consumption and emissions from vehicles. It thus offers both logistics and cost advantages, particularly for electric vehicle manufacturers. In addition, the significant reduction in seat cushion height has made it possible to gain extra space in the vehicle interior. This offers more flexibility for accommodating the power train or battery in the vehicle undercarriage.

In parallel to its efforts to reduce weight and material usage, Adient also considers sustainability aspects by actively researching and integrating more sustainable solutions and materials. The current model incorporates innovations such as volume-reduced and recycled PU foam, recycled plastics, monomaterials and green steel to reduce environmental impact and promote recyclability.
The “Pure Ergonomics” concept is available for development projects with OEMs and offers a wide range of customization options. Furthermore, Adient is working on a corresponding seat demonstrator to showcase the new concept and give customers the opportunity to experience its innovative features firsthand.
